Did Michonne Lose Her Pregnant Baby Episode 14

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for The Walking Dead Flavor 9 episode 14, "Scars."]

When it was revealed that Michonne and Daryl had twin X-shaped scars on their backs, The Walking Dead fans went wild. They speculated the cause to be anything from cocky-inflicted marks in remembrance of Rick, to Daryl donating a kidney to his longtime friend. The truth? A surreptitious far, far darker than many probably imagined.

"Scars" feels like a sibling to Season 4'due south "The Grove," which saw Carol telling immature Lizzie Samuels to look at the flowers. It's i of the near powerful hours The Walking Dead has ever aired (and information technology should accept earned Melissa McBride an Emmy nomination). Jocelyn's too injured to go become the rest of them herself, but Michonne brings the rest of the youngsters back to Alexandria.

Henry gets his leg fixed up and he and Lydia sit exterior. As they conversation, Michonne approaches and asks to talk to Lydia alone; once Henry leaves, she basically tells Lydia that she should think nigh striking out on her own and leaving the rest of her tiny group in social club to save them. Meanwhile, Daryl and Judith have a chat. Judith wants anybody from all the communities to come together and fight the Whisperers, based on the fact that she's heard the stories nearly the war confronting Negan and thinks they tin can win over again.

Judith'due south Big Escape

Michonne, desperate to find her, kickoff checks Negan's cell and has an aroused chat with him about what stories he's been telling her daughter; he's told her everything, including what he did to Glenn and Abraham.

"The point is," Negan says, "I shoot directly with her. Mayhap if you did that, y'all'd be talking to her right now instead of me."

Scars

Daryl and Michonne search for Jocelyn and the kids and find them in an abandoned school. They're both knocked out and tied up. When they awaken, the children (minus Judith and the Alexandrian kids, who are nowhere to be seen) use a hot iron to brand them both with the "X" that would one twenty-four hours become a scar. "I told you children are capable of annihilation," Jocelyn tells Michonne. "I taught them, helped them become what they are because they tin't be soft. Not at present."

When the kids and Jocelyn get out, Michonne and Daryl escape. They split up and await for the kids, but Michonne runs into Jocelyn and a few kids: one'southward armed with her katana, the other with a knife. The kids, at Jocelyn's prompting, express their duty to "marking our kill" (every bit they marked Michonne and Daryl,) "kill our marker." The residuum of the kids and Jocelyn evacuate and lock the schoolhouse doors, leaving Michonne with two armed and deadly kids.

"I don't want to have to injure you," Michonne tells them. 1 attacks just drops Michonne'south katana, and the other slashes Michonne in her pregnant belly. I of the oldest gives the order they follow — he tells i, named Winnie, to kill the Alexandrian kids, the rest are with him. She kills the older kid commencement, then another, much younger kid rushes at her with a pocketknife. She holds him away and begs him to stop, simply he keeps coming. Another kid, older, runs at her. She kills him.

Winnie is getting closer and closer to killing Judith and the other Alexandrians, approaching the trailer where they're being held with a knife. Michonne is forced to impale all the assembled children to stop them from killing her. Winnie stands in the doorway of the trailer with a knife, and as Daryl walks out of the building, Michonne orders Winnie non to do information technology. "Don't," she says. Winnie doesn't. Instead, Winnie's face crumples and she runs away.

Judith walks out of the trailer and stares blankly at Michonne for a few moments, then runs into her arms. All the residue of the Alexandrian kids follow, unharmed, and Michonne returns them to their families.

We Must Tell Alpha

In the present, Michonne manages to discover Judith outside the walls, where the kid has managed to take down several walkers. She's doing pretty well, but 1 of the undead grabs her shirt and starts pulling her toward it. "Mommy!" Judith yells. "Help!" Michonne frees her, and later, they talk about that mean solar day with Jocelyn and what it ways to dear someone.

According to Judith, loving someone is wanting to protect them no matter what. So when, she asks her mom, did they terminate loving Daryl, Maggie, Ballad and the King? They haven't, Michonne says, and she takes Judith to Carl'due south grave to explicate her determination. The whole customs'southward fright after what happened with Jocelyn led them to close their doors, even though that wasn't what Carl wanted. She tells Judith she was correct. "Nosotros have to protect the people we love," she says.

Other Observations

• In my opinion, this is one of the all-time episodes The Walking Expressionless has done in years. Information technology's powerful without being preachy, moving without being sappy. Though it's certainly not for the faint of center, it definitely explained why Michonne became the person she was after the time bound, and gave a little bit of her backstory, too.
• I can't help but wish Michonne had opened upward to Carol near what she went through, though — God only knows Carol would have understood. Has Carol ever told anyone about what happened with Lizzie and Mika?
• Good to know Daryl wasn't just taking Henry and leaving! I wish he would've mentioned telling Carol about his plan last episode, but better one episode later than never. Likewise, on the subject area of Daryl, information technology would've been interesting to meet how all of this stuff with Jocelyn and her kids affected him. There's no manner he survived an ordeal similar that and was but fine afterward.
